= 2 × (+1) + x + 4 × (-2)

= 2 + x – 8

This sum must be zero according to rule 6.

Hence, x – 6 = O

x = 6

Let the oxidation number of S be x.

the sum of oxidation number of verious atoms in H2S2O7

= 2 × (+1) + 2x + 7 × (-2)

= 2 + 2x – 14 = 2x – 12

if you put 2x – 12 = 0 as above

We get x = +6

therefore, the oxidation number of s in H2S2O7 is +6.

What is the oxidation number of S in Na2S2O3?

= 2 × (+1) + 2x + 3 × (-2)

= 2 + 2x – 6

= 2x – 4

put the value of 2x – 4 = 0

then then the value of x = +2

therefore, the oxidation number of S in Na2S2O3 is +2.
